Hunter Dawson Home in New Madrid, MO

In the bootheel leg of our 88 Missouri State Park quest, we stopped at the Hunter Dawson home in New Madrid, Missouri. We know some about New Madrid due to the record-breaking New Madrid earthquake that took place in 1811. The earthquake was the most powerful and devastating midwest earthquake in recorded history.

Because Maddie was sleeping, we skipped the historical home tour and just took turns walking around the outside to get a few pictures and some video, then we drove around New Madrid and found the “It’s Our Fault” hilariously named museum, but didn’t care to stop, wake up Maddie, and pay to visit.

On our way out of town we drove up and along the levee that protects the town from Mississippi River flooding, and then headed on to Big Oak Tree State Park and the Towosahgy Historic Site.
